The Ultrasonic Imaging Tool (UIT) is an ultrasonic pulse echo check tool for evaluating inner surface, casing thickness and 360° cement in open hole and cased hole.

The tool can be operated in two modes: 1) Imaging mode, for inner surface imaging in open hole or cased hole; 2) Casing inspection mode, for casing damage and cement evaluation.

The tool consists of electronic section and ultrasonic scan section. The electronic section is used for transducer excitation and data acquisition. The ultrasonic scan section includes two type of measurement transducers. One is mud sonic speed measurement transducer,and the other is parameter measurement transducer for echo signal measurement. The parameter measurement transducer is installed on the head of rotating scanner. Different sizes of scanner heads may be used to suit different hole sizes, and different exciting frequency may be chosen at surface system for different casing thickness.
