Overview
The Gas Holdup Tool (GHT01) has been designed to measure the gas void fraction in the wellbore around the tool. It is based on the principle that there are many more gamma rays scattered back by liquids than by gas, thus the count rate is low in gas and high in liquid. To achieve the measurement, a 3 milicurie cobalt source is mounted at the bottom of the tool to emit the gamma rays, which is then detected by a scintillation type detector for counting. The tool provides an excellent measure of the gas fraction in wellbores.
